RAJASTHANThe Incredible State of India!Mewar Festival...The Festival of 'Gangaur' has a unique charm in Udaipur. It is celebrated as the Mewar Festival in the month of Chaitra (March-April). During the Festival, processions are taken out carrying the idols of the deities-'Isar' (Shiv) and 'Gangaur' (Parvati), ornamented and dressed in colourful attires. The procession winds its way through the city lanes to the 'Gangaur Ghat' at 'Lake Pichhola', where the idols are worshipped and holy oblations are offered to them. aThe major highlight of the Festival is the Boat Procession with the Gangaur Boat all decked up carrying the idol of Gangaur. The Boat Procession proceeds from 'Bansi Ghat to 'Gangaur Ghat' in the evening with much fanfare.After completion of the religious ceremonies, exciting cultural events and activities take over the celebrations. Rajasthani songs, dances and other programmes hold the spectators in absolute delight. The Festival concludes with a captivating display of fireworks.On the second day celebrations continue with Rajasthani folk performances and a grand lively competition of foreign nationals in Rajasthani attires.Simultaneously, a rural Gangaur Mela is organised at Gogunda which is 40 Km. from Udaipur. The fair begins with the procession of Lal (Red) Gangaur that reaches the fair ground after passing through the main streets of the village with women dressed in traditional attire and jewellery carrying the Gangaur idols on their heads. Another major attraction is the Rural Haat Bazar at Gogunda.
